This tour highlights the two different worlds within South Africa and offers visitors the opportunity to blend into, and experience the local way of doing things. You will meet your Kayamandi resident guide at the Stellenbosch Wine Routes tourism centre in the historic and opulent centre of Stellenbosch. From here you will walk through the leafy streets of the iconic town, towards the local taxi rank, where a traditional South African taxi is taken to the Ikhaya Trust Centre in Kayamandi, covering the 3 kilometres that divides the two worlds. Once in Kayamandi, you will set out on the Kayamandi on foot tour, and return again to the centre of Stellenbosch by taxi, to complete the round trip.
The Kayamandi on foot tour is a three hour walking adventure that starts and ends at the Ikhaya Trust Centre in Kayamandi. Upon arrival your will receive a historic briefing on the Township, discuss your particular interest in the area and enjoy a cup of coffee at the Amazink restaurant. The walking journey sets off in a circular route weaving through streets and foot paths. Various stops are made at participating community attractions, where you can meet and chat with residents. Attractions include visiting local homes, churches, hostels, spaza shops, African barber shops, craft shops, development organisations, schools and the local taxi rank. Upon return visitors can view the Vision Afrika school within the Ikhaya Trust Centre and have the opportunity to buy locally produced craft items from our community shop.
